In 2012, WIPB implemented the Martha Speaks Reading Buddies Program at two elementary schools in Delaware and Randolph counties. To date, 425 students have participated!
Martha Speaks Reading Buddies is a 10-week long program that pairs kindergarten students (little buddies) with older students (big buddies). Buddies visit with each other once a week to learn special vocabulary words, play word games, watch a bit of Martha Speaks, read a book together and then finally write about their experience. Research indicates that when children “buddy” up for learning wonderful things take place for both older and younger students!
